Hosts – Frequently Asked Questions

There is no cost to host organizations. Legacy International covers the travel and living expenses of the fellow.

The U.S. Department of State sponsors the fellows' J-1 visa and Legacy supports the fellows through the process. This includes a background check by US Homeland Security.

The primary responsibility is to provide substantive learning opportunities relevant to your fellow. Here is more on what that looks like.

Fellows are placed at businesses, social enterprises, NGOs, incubators and government agencies for a hands-on practical fellowship experience. Host organizations vary in focus and structure.

As of January 2022, we are still in the process of determining dates but expect the Fall dates will be approximately September 12 to October 10 2022.  The Spring 2023 dates will be mid March to mid-April 2023.

COVID contingencies:   Legacy International's team is working closely with the U.S. Department of State, local and global health professionals to plan a program that adheres to the best public health practices. If the global health situation stabilizes and travel restrictions ease, we hope to conduct the program in person in Fall 2022. We remain open to providing a high quality virtual exchange if necessary.

Great! Contact Sarah Schneider s.schneider@legacyintl.org. She will talk with you about the projects and learning opportunities you have and see if there is a fellow whose interests, skills, and learning goals would be a match.

We understand also that remote working is now a norm.  Host organizations should plan at least 3 days per week when the fellow is working with others in-person.

We remain open to providing a high quality virtual exchange if necessary.  Virtual fellowships were conducted in 2020 and 2021 and we learned some great lessons.
