Training US girls to be Global STEM Leaders July 7 – 22, 2021

Legacy International is working closely with the U.S. Department of State, local and global health professionals to plan a program that adheres to the best public health practices. If the global health situation stabilizes and travel restrictions ease, we hope to conduct the program in person in summer 2021. We remain open to providing a high quality virtual exchange if necessary. US Youth Ambassadors will join the TechGirls for training at Virginia Tech.
TechGirls will select 10 US Youth Ambassadors (ages 15-17) for the 2021 cohort to join 2020 US Youth Ambassadors and 85 TechGirls from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Tajikistan, Tunisia and Uzbekistan on the campus of Virginia Tech.
2021 Program details
TechGirls brings 10 selected American young women (ages 15-17) from the 2020 cohort and the 10 girls for the 2021 cohort totaling 20 Americans to join 85 girls (52 girls 2020 cohort, 33 girls 2021 cohort) from 11 countries in Central Asia and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) for an exciting 15 days (July 7-22, 2021) of quality tech training and international friendship on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA. Participants will collaborate on tech projects by day and participate in stimulating cross-cultural dialogues and fun activities at night!
The scholarship is fully inclusive of courses, programming, housing and meals, staff supervision and ground transport for sightseeing. Participants are only responsible for transportation to and from Virginia Tech.
US Youth Ambassadors, this is your chance to collaborate with female STEM leaders from across the globe and gain tech skills that will inspire you to pursue your dreams. Participants will be learning programming in Java and Cybersecurity.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens between the ages of 15 to 17 at the start of the program with at least one year left of high school in the fall 2021. Applicants must also show sincere interest in technology and making friends from around the world.
About the Program
TechGirls is a US Department of State initiative that brings young women from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, Tajikistan, Tunisia and Uzbekistan to the US for a 3-week international exchange program designed to empower young girls from the Middle East and North Africa and Central Asia to pursue careers in science and technology. A highlight of their stay is meeting the US Youth Ambassadors as they live and learn together at Virginia Tech.
