TechGirl: Rawan
Country: Egypt
Participation year: 2017

Rawan invited 40 girls from two schools to visit her high school computer lab to excite them to pursue STEM.  After finishing the labs tour, she started giving college readiness sessions to sophomore and junior girls in her school . About 100 girls took advantage of the materials she developed on how to prepare for different tests and reviewing essays. She also did some face-to-face counseling. She had great support from her principal and the career counseling department at Maadi STEM School for Girls.

Rawan participated in Major League Hacking, a local hack day including programming, competitions, and certificates.  Rawan is now the president of the first MIT LaunchX club in Egypt. LaunchX gives high school students opportunities to use technology and entrepreneurship skills in their own startups. She is also a member of STEM Amazing Learning, which aims to help students develop their soft skills.  Rawan is also leading a curation team at TEDxYouth 6 October STEM. This is the very first TEDx event in her community) https://www.ted.com/tedx/events/24764

Rawan entered the Technovation Challenge to create an app to solve the increasing unemployment rate in Egypt.   “It was a fun, enriching experience”.   Rawan was part of the national winning team of the Education First Challenge, a national speaking competition!

As if Rawan was not busy enough, she is now taking a course at the Cisco Networking Academy called Networking Essentials 1.0 and preparing to take part in World Robotics Olympiad where she will be responsible for the mechanical design of the robot.
