Group leaders are dynamic, responsible, emotionally mature adults who support the youth participants in numerous of ways. Of utmost importance, leaders provide and maintain a safe and secure setting, wherein youths can have a meaningful, memorable learning experience.
Group leaders are chosen for their leadership skills, particularly in working with young people, as well as their cross-cultural experience and language competency.
- Beginning with pre-departure orientation, leaders work with participants to increase their knowledge of Morocco and its culture, develop communication skills, and cultivate new attitudes and awareness.
- During the course of the group’s stay in Morocco, leaders keep in close contact with home stay host families and youths, conduct group excursions, and guide the young people through discussion and reflection on their experiences.
- At the end of the program, leaders help the youths evaluate their experiences.
A leader's role is to:
- ensure the participants’ safety and welfare
- administer program logistics and budget
- facilitate the learning experience and encourage the personal growth of the participants
- negotiate expectations placed on the leader by Legacy’s Morocco partner, host families, participants, participants’ parents, and the ALI Project Director.
We look for group leaders with:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Leadership experience in working with high school students
- Living / learning experience in Morocco or other parts of the Arab world
- Competency in Arabic or French. (Arabic preferred.)
Although group leaders come from all professions, they are most typically:
- educators
- returned US Peace Corps volunteers
- graduate school students

The application process includes:
- short essay questions
- two (2) references forms
- copy of your resume
The Group Leader application deadline is March 1, 2008.
Completed applications will be reviewed in early March. Those who qualify will be scheduled for an interview in March or early April. Final decisions will be made by late April. |
