- Green Your World: Explore the natural world and the complex issues environmental issues facing our world. Learn how to be a friend to the environment by changing your every day habits to incorporate sustainable living practices. Discover the meaning behind eco-tourism, fair trade, green building, and renewable energy.
- Mass Media and You: TV, radio, magazines-- they are fighting for our attention every day. What techniques do they use and why? How do they influence our opinion on everything from music and clothing to how the war is going? Look at the political, social, and economic implications of media messages; learning how to “read between the lines” and use media wisely.
- Global Issues: Distribution of limited resources, human rights violations, AIDS, poverty, the technology divide… our world is faced with pressing issues; issues that this generation will inherit. In this workshop you will explore various points of view on different global issues, to understand that the answer is not always as clear as it seems.

Peacebuilding Seminar: All participants will participate in the daily peace-building seminar where you will learn how to talk about the issues and obstacles to peaceful relations in your life, your community, and your world. Participants will reflect on personal communication styles and habits, learning how to foster understanding, reduce prejudice and discrimination, and build bridges of friendship.
Recreation: Organized and free time options will include arts (pottery, creative writing, drawing, painting, etc.); sports (soccer, swimming, volleyball, basketball, touch football, Frisbee, etc); cultural explorations (American folk dance, Iraqi folkdance). Free time includes free access to sports fields for “pick-up” games, hang-out time, open art studios, etc. Arabic and English language instruction: To enhance casual communication, daily Arabic language instruction will be offered to the U.S. students. English will be offered to allow Iraqi students to practice their language skills and learn more about American culture. |
| Housing: Participants will be divided into Cabin Groups with mixed populations (Iraqi and US), each with an adult counselor. (Counselors are ages 23 or older and trained in cross-cultural, dialogue, and conflict transformation skills.) Cabin life is a unique opportunity for friendships, personal sharing, and group decision-making. |
