GLOBAL YOUTH VILLAGE - Session II -ABOUT |

The Global Youth Village Session II will help U.S. teens from many backgrounds build bridges of friendship and understanding with one another and with Iraqi teens from different cities and groups of the Iraqi population. The camp will take place at Legacy International’s beautiful Global Youth Village campground in southern Virginia. Staff will be drawn from many ethnicities and backgrounds, and participants will enjoy a wide variety of recreational, instructional, and hands-on activities. |

Youths will participate in daily workshops with interactive exercises, guest speakers, discussions, simulations, and role plays. They will share perspectives on their homes, families, and daily life, and discuss topics of teen interest such as music, dating, high school life, and their hopes and dreams for the future. They will explore global topics such as sustainable living, the role of media and public opinion, AIDS, technology, and conflict resolution. Activities outside the core workshops will invite teens to apply the skills they are learning in practical, real-life settings. There will also be plenty of time for sports, socializing, and talent shows. American students will learn some basic Arabic and will be good resources for the Iraqi students to improve their English. |

Funding for the Iraqi students’ participation in the Global Youth Village Session II is provided by the U.S. Department of State, as a part of its mission to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and other countries. The Camp is part of a month-long youth leadership program for Iraqi students (IYLEP), who will enjoy a two-week host family experience in the Gainesville, Florida area before the Camp. Three U.S. organizations are working together to make the Iraqis’ visit to the United States possible: AMIDEAST, Sister Cities International, and Legacy International
