TechGirls brings 5 American young women (ages 15-17) to join 28 girls from 7 countries in the Middle East and North African (MENA) for an exciting and unparalleled week of quality tech training and international friendship on the campus of Virginia Tech in Blacksburg VA. Participants will collaborate on tech projects by day and participate in stimulating cross-cultural dialogues by night!   U.S. Department of StateTechGirls is a US Department of State initiative that brings 28 young women (ages 15-17) from Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Palestinian Territories, and Tunisia to the US for a 3-week international exchange program designed to empower young girls from the Middle East and North Africa to pursue careers in science and technology. They will enjoy a 22-day program in the US, attending Java coding and app design class at Virginia Tech, meeting with tech companies and social entrepreneurs, and learning about leadership and social innovation. We are inviting 4 young women from the US to join us for the computer camp portion of the program.girls and technology

2017 Program Dates and Prices

  • July 16: Arrival and activities with MENA TechGirls
  • July 17-25: Tech classes
  • July 23: Cultural day
  • July 25:  Departure

Full scholarship includes tuition for camp, housing and meals, staff supervision and ground transport for sightseeing.  Participants are responsible for transportation to and from Virginia Tech. 

To apply: Applicants must be U.S. citizens, show sincere interest in technology and making friends from around the world and be between the ages of 15-17.

Legacy International Established in 1979, Legacy International is a non-profit educational organization. Legacy International has consultative status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council. We provide a safe and secure setting with high quality instruction and personalized attention. We have trained over 4,000 teens in more than 102 countries. Since 2012, Legacy has administered the TechGirls program.

Housing and supervision at Virginia Tech:  Legacy International has reserved double occupancy rooms for 32 girls and 4 staff at Virginia Tech, located in a beautiful Blacksburg, VA. Participants will be supervised and supported at all times, whether in the computer lab, dormitories, campus, or sightseeing.

2017 Course Options  Participants will be learning programming in Java and app design.
