Kyrgyz Women’s Initiative
Kyrgyz Women’s Leadership Development and NGO Capacity – Building
is a two-year, multi-phase program. The project is designed to positively impact emerging professionals (community leaders, political leaders, educators, and youth workers), and to strengthen grassroots organizations.
Program Time: January 2010 through December 2011.
Those involved: Twelve Kyrgyz women and eight U.S. delegates comprise the initial exchange groups. In Kyrgyzstan, the project will have a wide outreach, positively impacting the lives and capacity of women leaders of NGOs and Kyrgyz trainers, and additional community leaders and organizers.
Travel Involved: US NGO representatives will meet in the US with the Kyrgyz visitors and some will travel to the Kyrgyz Republic for additional training and to strengthen mutual understanding of the role of civil society in the two countries.
Project activities include:
A 22-day professional development trip to the United States for 12 Kyrgyz women, for training and to form relationships with peers in US organizations.
Follow-on projects carried out by the 12 alumni, each supported by $1,000 mini-grants from Legacy.
A 22-day outbound trip for 8 U.S. professionals working in fields similar to those of the Kyrgyz participants, during which organizational development consultations to NGOs will be offered.
Training forum for an additional 75 NGO leaders organized by Legacy and using U.S. and Kyrgyz trainers; and grassroots organizing training to be offered to local Kyrgyz women by the 12 alumni of the U.S. program.
