Support Legacy Leaders

Name: Akili Sundaii

Country: United States

Program: National Security Language Institute for Youth (NSLI-Y) – Morocco

Legacy Leader Profile: Akili Sundaii is a NSLI-Y student studying Arabic in Marrakech, Morocco through Legacy International. She is from Cambridge, Massachusetts, and in her Junior year of high school. NSLI-Y is part of a U.S. initiative that prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world. Now more than ever, it is important that Americans have the necessary linguistic skills and cultural knowledge to promote international dialogue and support American engagement abroad. NSLI-Y aims to provide opportunities to American youth that will spark a lifetime interest in language learning.

“If you told me that I would be spending my summer in the beautiful city of Marrakesh in the northernmost region of Africa to study Arabic, I would not have believed you. Yet, here I am in Morocco learning to improve upon my speaking, reading, and writing skills. I was absolutely terrified, as this was my very first experience abroad.”

What Legacy Are You Leaving? Through the generous donations of partner organizations and individuals we can provide global leaders like Akili with the tools to create a lasting Legacy in her community. Legacy International is one of 11 organizations nationwide that implements the NSLI-Y program.  For our summer programs 30 students are enrolled in language classes and receive at least 120 hours of classroom language instruction during the program. The academic year programs offer a unique 8-10 month language immersion experience for a group of 10-12 students. Students receive at least 10 hours of intensive language instruction per week.

Your donation creates real, practical, and sustainable change by supporting a global network of youth leaders spanning five continents. If you are a Federal Employee: (or have a relative or friend who is- please tell them) You can donate directly in the “Youth Leaders for the Future: A Legacy Initiative” #11143 in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC).
